Hanuman's Fire
The Story of Hanuman and Lanka Dahan
In the epic Ramayana, Hanuman, the devoted servant of Rama, was tasked with finding Sita, who had been abducted by Ravana and taken to Lanka. After crossing the ocean, Hanuman reached Lanka and located Sita in the Ashoka Vatika.
Hanuman delivered Rama's message to Sita and reassured her of Rama's impending arrival. He then created havoc in Lanka, uprooting trees and destroying Ravana's gardens.
When Ravana's soldiers tried to capture Hanuman, he allowed himself to be captured and presented before Ravana. Ravana questioned Hanuman's motives, but Hanuman fearlessly proclaimed Rama's glory and warned Ravana to release Sita.
Enraged, Ravana ordered Hanuman's tail to be set on fire. Hanuman, using his divine powers, escaped and set fire to the entire city of Lanka with his burning tail. This event is known as Lanka Dahan (burning of Lanka).
After burning Lanka, Hanuman returned to Rama and reported Sita's location. This story illustrates Hanuman's unwavering devotion, strength, and courage in the service of Rama. It symbolizes the destruction of evil and the power of righteousness.
