Prahlada's Unwavering Faith

The Story of Prahlada and Narasimha

Hiranyakashipu, an Asura king, was granted a boon that made him virtually invincible. He demanded that everyone worship him, but his son, Prahlada, remained devoted to Vishnu. Enraged, Hiranyakashipu tried to kill Prahlada numerous times, but Vishnu protected him.

Finally, Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlada, asking where Vishnu was. Prahlada replied that Vishnu was everywhere. Hiranyakashipu then struck a pillar and challenged Vishnu to appear. From the pillar emerged Narasimha, a half-man, half-lion avatar of Vishnu.

Narasimha killed Hiranyakashipu at dusk, on the threshold of his palace, using his nails, thus circumventing the conditions of the boon. He saved Prahlada and restored dharma (righteousness). This story demonstrates the power of devotion and the triumph of good over evil.
